The Challenge
According to various data, Lagos state which is Nigeria’s commercial hub and home to approximately 20 million people generates an estimated 13,000 metric tons of waste daily. While about 7000 tons are officially collected and dumped by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) into landfill sites, the rest is informally disposed. Indiscriminately disposed waste end up on our streets, in drainage systems, in water bodies choking aquatic life, or get burnt harming soil nutrients and adversely impacting human life and the environment.
Solution
Leveraging on numerous filling stations nationwide, customer centric services and technology; the goal was to develop a sustainable design solution that helps alleviate mobility challenges and provide valuable products through recycling and reuse of waste materials. Thereby building resilience, empowering communities as well as fostering economic livelihood.
